I have never looked forward to a workout until I started Pilates. I have been going to Re: Align Pilates for 18 months. At this point in my life (mid 50's), I am stronger and more flexible than I have been in 15 years. Pilates has also helped me with my running. Previously, whenever I tried running, I had trouble with my feet and Plantar Fasciitis. I started running again about 8 months ago to train for a half marathon. I completed the run with no pain whatsoever. I attribute this small miracle to the stretching of my arches on the Pilates Reformer. Twice a week, I attend Classical Pilates classes, instructed by Caroline Dover, at Re:Align Pilates, and consistently, each class is a great workout! Caroline’s positive encouragement of proper form and her attentiveness to individual differences are huge motivating factors for me. The concentrated focus on proper form…engaging our abs and s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g to feel our bodies grow longer, etc.…is enhancing my overall weekly workouts, both in the studio and away. With just two months of Caroline’s classes, I already feel increased muscle strength in my abs and especially, in my back, and I am enjoying greater flexibility in my entire body. For many of my adult years… before I started classes with Caroline…I had gotten into the habit of letting my upper body slump…so that my ribs sank right into my waist area. Because of what I am being encouraged to do at Re:Align, I am not only feeling improvement but also seeing it! I am better able to pull my ribs up and hold my body straighter…which has a nice side effect: at 66 years of age, my disappearing waist is once again beginning to have some definition!!! I Like Pilates because it works my core better than anything else I have tried. After having three kids, that is always a problem area. Pilates is a great combination with my other exercise routine. It helps my over all posture and after running and lifting weights, it helps me stretch and lengthen my muscles. Autumn B.
